Señor de los Milagros
Procession of the Lord of Miracles in front of the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris, France, on October 28, 2023. The Lord of Miracles is an image of Jesus originally painted in 1651 in Pachacamilla, Peru, by a slave named Pedro Dalcón. The painting gained great devotion after the earthquake of November 13, 1655, which destroyed much of Lima and Callao, yet left intact the adobe wall where the image was located. Years later, in 1687, another earthquake struck the city but once again did not damage the painting. To commemorate these miracles, an oil copy of the image was made and carried in procession through the streets of Lima. This religious tradition continues to be celebrated every October.
